Study the gong with Martha Collard
Martha has spent more than a decade teaching the meditation gong — in hospitals and schools, on the main stage at the Global Wellness Summit, and at Red Doors Studio in Hong Kong, home to Asia’s largest private collection of gongs. These are her masterclasses, taught in full, online, to students in more than thirty countries.
Three courses take you from the science of why sound moves us, through the craft of playing, to running sessions of your own. Each one is delivered with The Shift Network, so you get their platform, their livestream and lifetime access to every recording.
No gong needed to begin. The Art & Science course asks only for headphones. Bring an instrument when you are ready to play, and we will help you choose one.
Choose where to begin
Start anywhere. Most students begin with The Art & Science of Gong Playing and continue into the Practicum; Gong Medicine is the one course taught live, with Martha present each week.
Gong Medicine
Powerful gong meditations built to evoke the state of awe — and to measure what they do to you.
Seven weeks of live sessions in which you become the citizen scientist of your own practice. You will map what happens in your body during a gong bath, learn to hold a consistent online sound space, and use validated measures of stress, wellbeing and rest to see your results plainly.
The seven sessions
- Discover how the gong affects your body and mind
- Mapping the inner landscape: measuring change during a gong bath
- Digital delivery vs. the physical room: online gong baths
- Replicable procedures: somatic release and consistent environments
- Validated metrics: measuring stress and wellbeing with confidence
- The sleepiness index: quantifying somatic rest and recovery
- The grand symphony: your findings and next steps

Martha Collard
After thirty years in management consulting, Martha founded Red Doors Studio in Wong Chuk Hang — the first centre in Asia dedicated to meditation gongs. She has since brought the instrument to places it had never been: hospital wards, schools, festival fields, C-suite audiences and some of the world’s best-known brands.
Her students describe a rare combination — deep respect for traditional practice, and the ability to explain the acoustics behind it clearly and honestly. That is what these masterclasses are built on.
She articulates complex acoustical principles with remarkable clarity, making them accessible without intellectual compromise.
- Founder of Red Doors Studio, home to Asia’s largest private collection of meditation gongs
- Speaker at TEDx Hong Kong and the Global Wellness Summit, Singapore
- Teaches the gong for The Shift Network to students in more than thirty countries
- Featured by Cathay Pacific among the world’s best places for sound bathing
- Featured in We All Just Need to Gong!, Award of Merit, Awareness Film Festival 2023
- Leads Red Doors Gong Training, Levels 1–3, in Hong Kong and Bangkok

Where do the classes actually happen?
On The Shift Network’s platform. Clicking Enrol takes you to their course page, where you pay and get your login. Martha teaches every session; Red Doors does not handle the payment or the streaming.
Do I need a gong?
Not to start. The Art & Science of Gong Playing and Gong Medicine need only headphones or good speakers. The Practicum is hands-on, so you will want an instrument to practise on. Browse gongs and mallets in our shop, or email us and we will recommend something for your budget.
Which one should I start with?
The Art & Science of Gong Playing is the foundation, and the Practicum already contains it — so if you know you want the full craft, go straight to the Practicum rather than buying both. Gong Medicine stands on its own and suits anyone who wants Martha live, weekly, and a measurable look at what the gong does.
What if I miss a live session?
Nothing is lost. Every session is recorded and added to your library, and your access does not expire.
Is the tuition in Hong Kong dollars?
No — The Shift Network charges in US dollars, so your bank will convert at its own rate. Instalment plans are offered on all three courses.
Does this count towards Red Doors Gong Training?
These masterclasses are excellent preparation, and many students arrive having done one. They are a separate programme from our in-studio Gong Training levels, which are hands-on and certified in person. See upcoming studio dates.
Is it safe for everyone?
Sound meditation is gentle, but listen seated or lying down, never while driving. If you are pregnant, or have epilepsy, a pacemaker or a mental health condition, please check with your doctor first.
Closer to home
Enrolment, payment, access and refunds for all three masterclasses are handled by The Shift Network under their terms; tuition is charged in US dollars and set by them. Sound healing is a complementary wellness practice and is not a substitute for medical advice or treatment.
